Recidivism of Prisoners Released in 1994. Special Report

This study of the rearrest, reconviction, and reincarceration of prisoners tracked 272,111 former inmates for 3 years after their release in 1994. The 272, representing two-thirds of all prisoners released in the United States that were discharged from prisons in 15 States: Arizona; Maryland; North Carolina; California; Michigan; Ohio; Delaware; Minnesota; Oregon; Florida; New Jersey; Texas; Illinois; New York; and Virginia. The study uses four measures of recidivism: rearrest, reconviction, resentence to prison, and return to prison with or without a new sentence.
