摘要

This project will gather data on the cultural and community factors that are relevant in understanding social, cultural, and environmental factors which relate to the occurrence of intimate partner violence in U.S. rural communities. Five ethnicities (Anglo, American Indian, Alaska Native, Mexican American and African American) will be targeted, using ten communities of each ethnicity. The project will be conducted in five phases: (1) phone interviews with 320 / 350 key community members to develop an understanding of community norms, resources and willingness to address the perpetration of violence, and examine differences across the ethnic groups; (2) two focus groups in each of the five ethnicities to gain more specific information; (3) individual interviews with 30 to 40 men to identify cultural differences that may affect the likelihood of perpetration of violence; (4) development of culturally-appropriate strategies and materials for each of the five ethnicities; and (5) workshops in one each of the five ethnicities to prepare communities to develop local, culturally appropriate programs for prevention of perpetration of intimate partner violence.
