Estimated Takes of Protected Species in the Commercial Directed Shark Bottom Longline Fishery 2006

This report estimates total takes of protected species in the US Atlantic commercial directed shark bottom longline fishery for 2006. This report follows a prior report for estimated takes in this same fishery for 2003 thru 2005, using the same basic methods and written format. For the purposes of consistency, much of the structure and prose are identical to the prior report, except where methods and estimates have changed. For the purposes of this report, takes of protected species refers to protected species that were incidentally captured during fishing operations.
