摘要

At the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (Italian national institute of health), and in the Department of Technologies and Health (TESA), has been executed for years mechanical tests of hip implants, conducted in compliance with the guidelines of the relevant international law. Since May 2008, and based on a convention that the Ministry of Health has started with the ISS, it was possible to design, implement and validate a set of hardware and software solutions that allow now a broader set of mechanical tests on femoral stems, as indicated by international regulations and under critical contexts that can contribute to early detection of potential risk of structural failure of the implant. At the time of drafting this report are implementable all parts of the international standard ISO 7206 for the femoral stems. The next steps will include similar steps of design, development and implementation of issues relating to the evaluation of mechanical properties of the other prosthetic components (femoral heads, rings, cups and acetabular cups) and any innovative prosthetic solutions.
