Bioasphalt from Urban Yard Waste Charbonization: A Student Study, Executive Summary Report

The objectives of the project were to evaluate the fundamental feasibility of generating bitumen from urban yard waste by designing and testing experimental pyrolysis reactors capable of implementing the carbonization process on yard wastes. Carbonization was then applied to a wide range of yard waste components to determine if this would be viable as a general approach to yard waste management or if it would only be viable if applied to a specific fraction of the yard waste source. The goal was to produce a sufficient quantity of yard-waste-derived bitumen so that its physical and chemical properties could be evaluated.
