GERMAN SINKER ROCK DRILLS

German pneumatic sinker rock drills captured in Algiers have been examined by the Technical Staff of the Engineer Board. This equipment consisted of two drills and nine drill steels.nOne drill bearing the name “Demagetr” cast in the side of the upper barrel is of the D-handle type. The mark “Demag” is found on the side of the D-handle casting (Fig. 1) and has no name plate or other manufacturer’s identification marks.nThe other German rock drill had no mark of manufacturer’s identification. The tool was identified as German by the small stamp found on all other German Army Equipment.nThe drill steels captured with the above mentioned tools were of German manufacture. They carry the name Frankfurther Machinenbau stamped in the side of each rod and the stamp found on all German Army equipment.
