A Literature Survey and Analysis of Induction System Icing in Ordnance Automotive Vehicles

The combined refrigeration of fuel evaporation and air throttling may cause induction system icing when the ambient air temperature is in the 30 ° to 50°F range, the relative humidity is 75 to 100 percent, and the engine is operated at light load.nIcing other than by refrigeration may seriously reduce engine per¬formance, but a thorough review of Arctic test reports indicates that the occurrence of engine power failure resulting from icing is confined to the air cooled engines equipped with either fuel injection or natural aspiration induction systems of track-laying vehicles.
