A Radar Video Simulator for Range and Angle

This report briefly describes a laboratory-designed radar video simulator which is now available for testing tracking circuits. The simulator furnishes video pulse combs, such as are obtained from a narrow beam search radar. The video pulse is .5 μsec wide, with a repetition rate of 2 kc. Range and angle are variable and are con¬trolled by the delay of phantastron circuits. Both range and angle may be set at a fixed value, or one or both may be continuously varied in a linear or sinusoidal manner. The antenna pattern is considered to be a narrow beam type with a sin x form. The beam rotates horizontally four times a second. Both range and angle can be displayed on oscilloscopes. The return pulse comb comprising the angle simulation is box-car detected for the angle display.
