An experimental investigation has been made in the Langley high-speed hydrodynamics facility to determine whether the planing lift coef¬ficient of a flat-bottom planing surface remains constant with increasing speed at the high towing speeds obtainable from this facility. Measure¬ments were made of lift and wetted area at speeds ranging from 80 to 170 fps over a range of trims from 4°to 30°and at wetted-length—beam ratios of approximately 2 and 5.
