Polarization Discrimination in Television Broadcasting

This study considers the possibility of reducing television co-channel and adjacent channel interference through the device of having alternately spaced stations transmit with vertical polarization and horizontal polarization, respectively. Unfortunately, practical antenna systems and propagation under practical conditions produce some cross polarization; that is, transmissions intended to be received on one type of antenna can in fact be received on the oppositely polarized antenna. This paper reviews the presently available data and indicates what results may be expected.
