I. Isotherms and calorimetric heats of adsorption of water on reduced, oxidized and regenerated nickel, cobalt and copper surfaces have been determined. Water adsorbs on reduced nickel and cobalt surfaces by donating lone electron pairs to the d-band of the metals. Only physical adsorption takes place on reduced copper. Interaction between water and oxidized nickel and cobalt surfaces is stronger than that on regenerated surfaces and confirms the presence of chemisorbed 0- on the oxidized surfaces.nII. The degree of regeneration of oxidized nickel, cobalt and copper surfaces have been measured by the subsequent oxygen uptake during the fast step of the oxidation process. The degree of regeneration increases with increasing activation temperature.
