Contract objectives called for the development of electronic power transformers capable of operation in a 500℃ ambient temperature and in intense nuclear radiation. Much of the initial work involving evaluations of transformer basic materials, combinations of materials in transformers, and development of ceramic processes and reported in WADC TR 57-492. According to the original plan, this work required continuation with new projects as well as refinements of the older ones. New projects defined for this contract, AF33(616)-5579, were breakdown potential of air up to 500℃ temperature and in a radiation environment, an impregnation material development, and a design optimization study. Refinements were concentrated on a weight reduction of a standard hermetic construction, and evaluation of heretofore unavailable basic materials. Life tests were performed under combined high temperature and radiation conditions. Life tests were performed under combined high temperature and radi-ation conditions. Vibration and shock tests were also combined with high temperature (500℃).
