Theory, Resistance of a Drilled Shaft Footing to Overturning Loads

The theoretical development of stresses on a drilled-shaft footing of circular cross-section, subjected to a horizontal load or moment at the ground surface is presented. The analyses are based upon generally-accepted theory used by previous researchers in this field. It differs from previous work by the inclusion of all available resisting forces and is, therefore, less conservative. Analyses are presented for both cohesive and non-cohesive soils. (BPR abstract)
