Ramjet Technology. Chapter 8. Air-Fuel Mixture Preparation

Liquid fuels must undergo atomization, mixing, and evaporation before combustion occurs. It is convenient to consider these processes separately, but this separation should not obscure the fact that the processes usually occur concurrently rather than consecutively. None of the three is understood well enough for rigid design of practical combustors from first principles. However, enough is known to guide the designer in improving existing combustor systems, as well as for establishing new designs. The three processes are discussed in detail. (Author)
