A number of programs have been developed which use central memory, extended core storage, and disk storage to solve extremely large matrix iterative problems. The primary requirements in such a program are to obtain a sufficiently dynamic allocation of the storage resources available and to achieve the highest possible transfer rates between the various storage devices. The allocation and use of these three levels of storage is controlled by a subroutine package called FTB-3. The system environment in which FTB operates is described, together with the procedures utilized for storage allocation, disk transfer, and file processing. (Author)
