The Effect of Rubber Additives on the Thermorheological Properties of Asphalt Mixtures

The report presents the initial investigation results of linear viscoelasticity property and other related mechanical properties of eight asphalt mixtures. The findings indicate that the assumption of linear viscoelastic behavior of the asphalt mixtures is approximately held. The prediction of the relaxation modulus by inversion of the creep compliance using linear viscoelastic theory yields satisfactory agreement with the experimental results. Linear viscoelastic analysis of the DIAMETRAL creep test indicates that using both tensile and compressive creep compliances, which are quite different as found in the report, yields better agreement with the experimental result.
