ON THE STATISTICAL RELATIONS BETWEEN NIMBUS II MRIR DATA AND LOWER TROPOSPHERIC MOISTURE CONTENT.

摘要

Theoretical considerations suggest that there should be a relation between the reflected and long-wave radiation of Earth in various spectral channels,as measured from artificial satellites,and the moisture content of atmospheric layers. These relations are investigated statistically. Linear regression techniques are applied to the water vapor channel,the window channel,the total long wave channel and the albedo channel of the NIMBUS II MRIR experiment as independent variables. Dependent variables are the mean relative humidity and the precipitable water content of various layers below the 500-mb level. (Author)
