Bituminous Mixture Analysis by Process Control

Specifications based upon control testing are, in many cased, inadequate for the requirements for which they are intended. Indeed, it has come to be accepted with some items that a certain number of failing results are to be expected with the present limits that are specified. This report presents the philosophy of acceptance testing and a system whereby an acceptable or failing material may be more accurately defined. A system of charting the results is presented which will enable the data to be compiled in an easily presentable form and which will also help keep acceptance evaluation up to date. The method of acceptance testing is further applied to nine projects which are evaluated as to their acceptability. (Author)
