摘要

Studies to evaluate the liquefaction potential of soil deposits during earthquakes have been the subject of much attention in recent years. Many of these studies have been based on the principle of subjecting representative soil elements to the same loading conditions in the laboratory as they would encounter in the field,and assessing the probable field performance from the resulting behavior of the laboratory test specimens. This basic principle has been the keystone of many design procedures in soil mechanics since the earliest days of this field of science but,as always,the application of the laboratory test results to field conditions must be based on a careful evaluation of the degree to which the laboratory test procedures provide a meaningful representation of the field loading conditions.
