MODELING AND OPTIMIZATION OF TRANSIENT COOLING WATER DISCHARGE FROM POWER GENERATING PLANTS: PHASE Ⅱ – APPLICATIONS TO REGIONAL SITUATIONS
The Purpose of the research was to establish a scientifically sound general design procedure which can be used For determining a cooling water discharge policy for a power plant so as not to lead to deterioration of the environmental quality. The work was the continuation and extension of the research (B-030-KAN) carried out by the present investigators.nThe research has resulted in a series of publications. They contain the results of (1) water quality modeling and its experimental verification for the Kansas River, (2) optimal configuration of the cooling system for power generation, (3) optimal artificial aeration systems for water quality control of stream receiving thermal and organic waste discharges, (4) opti¬mal basin-wide water quality management under minimum treatment level regulations, and (5) regional water quality management through coordination of urban and agricultural pollution control. The summary of significant results of these articles is presented in this report.
