An Evaluation of Truck Aerodynamic Drag Reduction Devices and Tests,

The purpose of this report is to provide a listing of aerodynamic drag reduction techniques,tests and computer simulators relating to fuel reduction in the trucking industry,to provide an evaluation of the usefulness of the information to the industry,and to formulate recommendations as to activities which will accelerate the acceptance of these energy conservation approaches for follow-on programs. The data presented and the subsequent evaluation are based on information provided by respondents. The limited information obtained appears reasonable,and should contribute to the general appreciation and acceptance of the aerodynamic drag reduction devices. The survey data demonstrate that significant fuel savings are achievable through the use of add-on aerodynamic drag reduction devices. An even greater potential is new truck front-end designs.
