Technical Studies on the Engineering and Biological Aspects of Controlled Purification of the Eastern Oyster. Volume 1. Practical Considerations for Bacterial Depuration of Oysters in the Chesapeake Bay Region

摘要

The document reports results of studies on the engineering and biological aspects of controlled purification of the Eastern oyster. It was found that depuration of fecal coliform bacteria from oysters occurred in the Chesapeake Bay region when levels below 50 per 100 gm of tissues were considered to be successful. However, since oysters may not depurate to that level when physical and chemical conditions induce stress, adequate monitoring of those parameters in the depuration plant are necessary.
