This report presents consolidated information on the practical aspects of blending viscose/polynosic with cotton, such as optimum processing particulars, blend proportions, count range, and effects of blending on quality and performance. The blending of viscose/polynosic fibers with cotton can conveniently be done on cotton machinery with only minor adjustments in processing particulars. The blend yarns in general are more even and give less breaks at ring spinning, winding, warping, and weaving. Higher production rates at fly frames and ring frames can be obtained due to lower twist multipliers used for viscose/polynosic-cotton blends. However, the tensile strength and abrasion resistance of yarns from viscose-cotton blends is less by about 15% than the corresponding all-cotton yarns. This deficiency in tensile strength can be made up at least partly by blending polynosic fibers, (high wet modulus) which have the tensile properties more compatible with cotton than the regular viscose staple.
