Laser and Electro-Optical Interference Considerations at Radio Frequencies.

The interference potential between radio spectrum systems and laser and/or electro-optical systems has been examined in an initial study. Emissions of laser/electro-optical systems and devices were reviewed,laser/electro-optical applications were identified,RF emissions associated with laser/electro-optical systems were considered,and susceptibilities of these systems were identified. It was determined that EMC problems at RF may exist in systems operating above 3000GHz. Furthermore,radiated RF could be a problem in particular systems. The radiated RF signal levels and RF susceptibility levels of laser/electro-optical systems are generally unknown and need to be determined. Intersystem and intrasystem design considerations are needed. Recommendations were made for continuing work.
