Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on December 31, 2011 totaled 3.29 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.89 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.64 billion pounds of actual farmer stock. Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 623 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 33.0 million pounds. Shelled peanut stocks totaled 469 million pounds of which 432 million pounds were edible grades and 36.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 60.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 361 million pounds of Runners, and 10.5 million pounds of Spanish. Millings in December totaled 339 million pounds. Millings by type were 56.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 279 million pounds of Runners, and 4.11 million pounds of Spanish. Commercial processors utilized 157 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type was 94.3 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 24.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 37.7 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 34.4 million pounds during the month. Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.59 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during December. Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, 2011 totaled 628,000 pounds, compared with 712,000 pounds on November 30, 2011. Of the December total, 335,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 236,000 pounds were Runners, and 57,000 pounds were Spanish. November stocks of treated seed included 419,000 pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 236,000 pounds of Runners, and 57,000 pounds of Spanish. Stocks estimates refer to December 31, 2011.
