Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Antenatal Steriod Therapy in the Prevention of Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome

In 20.5 months of patient recruitment, 432 patients have been screened. Forty-seven patients, 32 (68%) of which are less than 34 weeks and 15 (32%) at 34-36 weeks gestation, have been randomized. Of the 47 entered into the study, 35 of 47 have had L/S ratios obtained prior to entry. The authors have successfully predicted delivery to occur in 1-7 days in 66% of patients. Immature L/S ratios have been obtained in 15 of 15 (100%) patients between 34-36 weeks gestation. Maternal transports have contributed to our population in 1978-79. We are presently summarizing screening and outcome data of patients excluded from the study.
