Development of a Quantitative, Sampling and Analytical Method for Acetone Cyanohydrin in Air

A method for the analysis of acetone-cyanohydrin (75865) in air was developed. Samples were collected on a silylated styrene-divinylbenzene porous polymer and desorbed with ethyl-acetate and analyzed by gas chromatography, with a nitrogen-phosphorous detector and a teflon column packed with five percent OV-17 on Chromosorb-T. Detection limit was 0.1 microgram per milliliter acetone-cyanohydrin in ethyl-acetate. The dynamic generation system and other methods for determination of the compound were evaluated including continuous monitors, impinger techniques, and sorbent sampling, and each method's strength and weaknesses were assessed.
