Health Care Information Systems. VA Medical Center as Information System Module. Existing VAMC Information Systems. (Task 4)

The objective of this Consultant Study was to analyze and document the actual flow of information within VA Medical Centers. The study was conducted over a nine month period. Initially, three medium sized VAMC's (350-450 bed) were examined. For each center, data were obtained regarding structure; functional roles; information inputs, needs, and outputs; information systems; and networks of exchanges between providers and recipients of data involved in providing direct support to health care delivery. The second step involved synthesis and analysis of data collected which led to a hypothetical model of typical information flow within a VAMC. The final step involved the validation of the model at two smaller and one larger VAMC. This document sets forth the results of Task 4, Existing VAMC Information System.
