Study of Trade Adjustment Assistance to Firms in the Handbag Industry

The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program provides benefits to industries that have been affected by increased imports. This study evaluates the impact of the TAA program on recipient firms in the U.S. handbag industry. Two principal hypothesis were tested: (1) TAA benefits will increase the likelihood of firms' long-term viability and (2) TAA benefits to firms will save or create jobs. Testing was done by measuring the changes in profit and production of recipient firms with non-recipient firms. Data was collected from 45 firms.
