Without proper machinery and professional forestry assistance, increased fuelwood use could contribute to poor forestry practices. Since many woodland owners will permit only small-scale equipment to be used on their property to transport wood from stump to roadside, and since only specially designed equipment can operate effectively in dense woods, small tractor-based harvest operations such as those commonly used in Europe show promise for applicability in this country.
