Family Economic Impacts of Children's Handicaps

摘要

The purpose of this study was to examine the economic impacts on families of children's disabilities and handicapping conditions. These impacts include direct expenses (out-of-pocket costs for medical treatment) as well as opportunity costs (parent's productive time drawn away from other activities because of the greater time demands of caring for a disabled child). Estimates of components of these costs were based on data from national household surveys as well as a synthesis of other related research.
