Retirement Plans of Middle-Aged Married Women

This analysis uses data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Work Experience of Mature Women. The sample includes 800 married women who were 45 to 56 years of age in 1979. The majority of these women do not plan to retire at the same time as their husbands. Although husbands' plans for retirement have some impact on the age at which women plan to retire, women's retirement plans are more strongly influenced by their own pension eligibility.
