Wear Behavior of Insulated Joints, First FAST Experiment

The performance of seven designs of bonded and nonbonded insulated joints was tested at the Facility for Accelerated Service Testing (FAST), Pueblo, Colorado. Measurements were obtained for change in rail profile at the joint, dynamic deflection under freight car impact, and electrical resistance of insulated joints with traffic. Maintenance manhours related to joint performance were tabulated, and relative performance indices provide an overview.
