The fishing industry, like many other sectors of the Mexican economy, has been adversely affected by Mexico's 1982 financial crisis. The Government has been forced to stop construction on several major development projects in 1982 and to delay others that were scheduled to begin in 1983. The annual report on the Mexican fishing industry prepared by the U.S. Regional Fisheries Attache for Latin America, reviews 1982-83 fishery developments, including the budget, organization, catch, consumption, workforce, fleet, processing, cooperation, private sector, and export opportunities.
