Comparison of Reservoir/Stimulation Characteristics for Nine Tight Gas Sands Areas

This analysis represents a comparison of nine stratigraphic unit-areas exhibiting the most common characteristics affecting hydraulic fracturing and further screening for GRI priority research areas. This report briefly describes each of the nine unit-areas, lists the acquired engineering data, shows the method used for evaluating and ranking the characteristics, and finally displays composite matrix information for the nine unit-areas. Of the unit-areas analyzed, three resulted in a greater number of higher ranking for research-attractive reservoir stimulation characteristics. The three considered to offer the most potential for technology extrapolation are the Cozzette and Corcoran Sandstones of the southern Piceance Basin, the Travis Peak/Hosston Formation of the East Texas/North Louisiana Salt Basins and the Olmos Formation of the Maverick Basin. Additional criteria may be combined with this analysis by GRI in selecting priority research areas.
