World Grain Situation and Outlook: World Grain Trade, February 1985

World wheat and coarse grain trade is projected at nearly 209 million tons, up about 2 million tons from last month. There is an improved picture for coarse grain trade in light of recent Soviet buying, but the outlook for world wheat trade is basically unchanged. Projected world wheat and coarse grain production continues to swell due to higher forecasts for the Northern Hemisphere, as well as favorable development of most major Southern Hemisphere crops. World wheat trade for July-June 1984/85 continues to be forecast at about 107 million tons. The wheat market remains very competitive as the exporting countries attempt to market large surpluses while import demand has softened.
