Application of a Seasonal Harvesting Model to Two North Carolina Shrimp Fisheries

The timing of the opening for a seasonal fishery such as the inshore shrimp fishery can potentially influence the total revenue obtainable from the fishery. The traditional approach in North Carolina has been to open the shrimp fishery when the shrimp have reached a marketable size. However, shrimp increase in value as they grow, both from weight gain and higher market prices for the larger size groups. The purpose of the study is to determine the optimal time to open the harvest season for two North Carolina shrimp fisheries--the New River fishery and the Pamlico Sound fishery.
