Nutrition Issues in Developing Countries for the 1980s and 1990s

The book consists of 5 papers and related discussions from a symposium held in December 1985 at the National Academy of Sciences and sponsored by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council in conjunction with the board's Committee on International Nutrition Programs. The papers were presented by Dr. Halfan Mahler of the World Health Organization, Dr. John Kenneth Galbraith of Harvard University, Dr. John Mellor of the International Food Policy Research Institute, and Dr. John Waterlow of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The symposium was chaired by Dr. Abraham Horwitz, director emeritus of the Pan American Health Organization. The papers and discussion attempt to identify the critical issues for international nutrition for the rest of the century, the major determinants of present and future trends, the role of international organizations, and the program and research needs.
