摘要

A novel solid modeling method (extended octrees) was applied to the validation of the input program for numerically controlled (NC) machines. The project provides an efficient and economical mechanism to generate a 3D graphical emulation of NC machining, providing dimensional information and checks for undesired tool/spindle/fixture/workpiece collisions. Four axis tool motion is accommodated. The Phase 1 Research objectives: (1) Provide an interface to a variety of NC machine tool programs; (2) Generate swept volumes and the corresponding boundary representations for up to four axis machining; and (3) Port the extended octree code from a VAX to an IBM PC have all been met.
