Prospective Payment and Analytic Support Studies: Synthesis of PPS (Prospective Payment System) Evaluation and Research Activities - First Year Report

The report reviews the scope of the research activities that were underway or completed as of September 30, 1985 relating to the Medicare program's Prospective Payment System (PPS) for hospital care. 364 studies were identified with a combined worth of $78 million. The authors group the work into three clusters; health services research on the general impacts of the existing program; formative research on particular aspects of the program; studies relating to alternatives to PPS and studies about extensions of the pps concept to other providers.
