Bioeconomic Simulation of the Alaskan King Crab Industry

The report presents a bioeconomic simulation model of the Alaskan red king crab industry for the period 1970-92. A biologist stock submodel is joined with an economic market submodel to predict behavioral responses of the industry and of crab stocks to a variety of management controls. Initially, the simulations are hindcast between 1970 and 1983 to indicate the potential role of regulatory policy in this tumultuous fishery. Future simulations are then conducted to anticipate the role of management policy on future industry conditions from 1985 to 1992.
