System of Collecting RAWS Data for Dissemination Over AFOS

Medford recently implemented a new PC-based system of collecting, processing, and storing RAWS (Remote Automatic Weather Stations) data for dissemination to AFOS (Automation of Field Operations and Services). RAWS data are accessed via the Forest Service's AFFIRMS computer network. SAO's (Standard Airways Observation) are accessed via AFOS, and a database of both RAWS and SAO observations is maintained by the PC. Software developed as part of this program is used to create plotfiles and AMOS-type RAWS observations which are transmitted into AFOS.
