FAA Technical Center NAS Security Research Program: Positive Passenger BaggageMatching (PPBM) R and D Project Plan

The Positive Passenger Baggage Matching (PPBM) Plan details the type and level ofR&D effort necessary to identify technologies that could be employed to increase the efficiency of PPBM operations and reduce the costs to implement and operate PPBM on domestic passenger flights. The plan discusses the major tasks to be accomplished to achieve the project objectives and provides a schedule for such tasks. These tasks involve surveying current PPBM operations on U.S. air carrier international flights to identify PPBM operational effects and associated costs; identifying technologies that could be adapted to PPBM operators to increase efficiency; and estimating the operational effects and costs of implementing and operating PPBM operations on domestic flights.
