Final Approach Performance Monitor.

The report describes the objectives,the system design goals,the hardware developed,and the laboratory test results of an ILS Performance Monitor. This new measuring system makes angular measurements of the angular deviation from the glidepath of an aircraft on a final approach. Measurements are made once every ASR scan. The signal used for this measurement is the aircraft's transponder reply to the ASR interrogation. A fixed monopulse monitoring antenna measures the angular position of the aircraft relative to the antenna boresight. Since the antenna is boresighted along the glidepath,computations can determine the deviation of the aircraft from the glideslope. The technique is very precise in measuring angular deviation from antenna boresight;its range measuring accuracy is limited by the inherent jitter in the transponder reply. The monopulse antenna and receiver were developed in accordance with the system design goals and delivered to NAFEC for test and evaluation.
