Defective Welding in Front Plate Section for Bow of Tank T3E2

The section has two welds made by the American-LaFrance Co. of Elmira, New York, according to a procedure furnished by the Disston Co. A crack showed bright metal characteristic of a fresh break. For this reason, it evidently occurred subsequent to the final heat treatment. Other cracks were found in X-ray films. These are located in Figs. 1 and 2.
