Ethanol Plant Study. Phase 1 for Residual Energy Application Program at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, Piketon, Ohio

The design and economics are reviewed of a plant for the production of 10 million gallons per year of 199 proof ethanol from Ohio Appalachian hardwoods by the EMS-INVENTA hydrolysis and fermentation process coupled with PEDCo International's distillation scheme. A major feature of the current design is the moving-bed hydrolysis reactor. The plant produces enough waste heat to support 20 acres of greenhouses. The proposed plant, product markets, financial considerations, and the recommended program are discussed. (ERA citation 10:000364)
