摘要

This report covers the development of rectangular enclosures and load-bearing insulation for use with high temperature electric vehicle batteries carried out at Union Carbide Corporation, Linde Division, from February 1980 to June 1981 under contract to DOE-CORO. The first module rectangular enclosures were fabricated using the glass board insulation, and significant reductions in thermal conductivity were achieved on both the glass board and peg-supported multifoil insulations. The costs of the enclosures were estimated in 1000 and 200,000 units/year quantities, and in large quantities the cost of the enclosure was approx.$7/kW-hr. Two items which stand out regarding the future developmental effort are the thermal expansion joint and the pegged multifoil insulation. The former is critical in fabrication of full size battery enclosures, while the latter is the key to additional significant weight and cost reduction of the battery enclosure. 40 figs., 19 tabs.
