Measurements of Axial Forces on Cones in Very Rarefied, Arc-Heated Nitrogen Flows

In the regimes of shock formation and transition flow axial force measurements are discussed. The flow conditions are character¬ized by M∞ =10-12 and λ∞ =1.5-5.5 mm. The current status of the investigations deals with effects of sting geometry, tip sharpness-bluntness ratio, and angle of attack on axial force measurements.
