Calculation of Constraints and Deformations in Static Loads Shells . Calcul des Contraintes et des Deformations de Coques Chargees Statiquement

Stress and deformation of spherical shells with constant thickness and uniform loading were computed for shells whose thickness was small compared with the radius. Two computation methods were used: in the first method the initial equations were simplified by assuming that the deflection momenta rapidly decrease from the edges to the center. If the opening of the shell is large the results are good for the external third of the shell and compare with the experimental results. The second method involves the solution of the initial system; this solution is time consuming and the numerical analysis requires a computer. However the results are valid for the full surface of the shell even for very different curvatures. This method enables the calculation of the deformation of the shell and therefore the rise of camber in the center which is a valuable parameter since it can easily be measured. (Author)
