Photolytic Decomposition of Water into Oxygen and Hydrogen as an Alternative Energy Utilization of Households and Small Consumers

The photolytic decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen is one of the possible alternatives for the transformation of solar energy into storable secondary energy for practical utilization by households and small consumers. After a survey of the possible cycles of water decomposition, the chemical and physical fundamentals of the photolytic decomposition of water using inorganic catalysts and sensitizers are described. Finally, a total house energy supply system is presented as one illustration of the application possibilities.
